Mercenaries 2 World in Flames Review

Mercenaries 2 is fun.Nobody can agrue that blowing things to bits in this game isn't entertaining to some degree. However, even though this may be the case, the game isn't without it's problems.Out of these problems, probably the most noticeable immediately are things such as the poor physics,a bad story, and repetitive gameplay. You start out picking your character form a selection of three misfits who somehow ended up in the diry line of work that is being a merc. There's Mattias Nelson, the Swedish badass with a mohawk.Chris Jacobs, the hardass African American. And Jennifer Mui,the gunslingin' chinese operative.

The setting is Venezuela, where you are trying to take down Solano,a rich political figure who seizes control of the countries oil supply. While the game supports co-op,it doesn't make it very easy to get into a game from the main menu.Whether this was something they didn't realize or something they didn't bother to fix,it can easily lead to frustation when trying to get into a game with someone. If you do manage to get into a game, then it is alot of fun,you can do everything you can do in single player including challenges and contracts. However,it seems as though the developer didn't put much thought into to co-op,other than the design of the vehichles, most of which are designed spefically for 2 people. For instance, there is a massive dependance on player 1,AKA the player who hosts the game.If Player 2 ventures too far away from his buddy, than the screen starts to blur and you are forced to return to your ally. Also,Player 2 cannot do certain things, such as initiate a challenge or enter a shop, without 1st player there to do it for them.

However, the game is definitely not all bad,in addition to all the supply drops and vehichles you can aquire, there are many different types of airstrikes that the player can call in any time(provide they have sufficient fuel and money) to reign destruction down upon their enemies. Most of the weapons are quite satisfying to use,but the vehichle controls feel a bit clunky. All in all,it's an ok package with some decent fun to be had,but there are too many small things holding it back from being much much better. This one is one to rent.
